He’s right, of course. It makes sense to surround ourselves with beautiful things, because they put us in touch with our potential as human beings, reminding us of what we can do, achieve, when we’re at our best.

When I’m having lunch, I’ll turn to a particularly beautiful painting, and just gaze into it. Believe me, this view is often much better than anything I can look at in a restaurant.
