Sexual aspects always played a mayor role in art, it's surely not something that's limited to our present time, we humans always felt the need to visualize our desires and celebrate the beauty of love. Even the first artworks made by humans have a distinct sexual nature, like the 'Venus of Willendorf' a small fertility statute. But the concept of erotic art for entertainment or artistic purposes only is something of our modern times, before 1900 erotic themes and nudity were used, more or less, functional.
